In search of the gender signal: introduction to stylometric approaches

by Helena Bermúdez Sabel

In this workshop we will explore certain stylometric methods to tease out gender makers in literary corpora in Romance languages. One of the tools that will be used during the development of the talk is TXM (see https://txm.gitpages.huma-num.fr/textometrie/files/software/TXM/0.8.2/en/). A sample dataset and instructions will be provided in case participants want to experiment after (or during) the talk, but its installation beforehand is not required.

Towards the computational analysis of a peripheral literary tradition: The case of Alsatian theater

by Pablo Ruiz Fabo

In this workshop, we will learn about the corpus development method of the MeThaL project, from paper or digitised sources to TEI-encoded plays. The MeThaL project is creating the first large, publicly available corpus of Alsatian theatre. Additionally, we will explore character and emotion analysis based on the MeThaL project’s corpus.

Discourse analysis: IAT/ML

by Beatriz Calderón-Cerrato, César González-Pérez and Martín Pereira-Fariña

In this workshop, we present IAT/ML, a discourse analysis methodology that combines ontological, argumentation and agency analysis, and LogosLink, a software tool created for its application. The theoretical information will be exemplified with a case study related to dissonant heritage.

Connecting Homer: An Introduction to Linked Data in the Humanities

by Jorge Juan Linares Sánchez

In this workshop, a theoretical and practical introduction to the methodology, vocabularies and tools involved in creating linked data will be carried out in the context of humanistic studies. Examples of literary applications will be shown based on the Greco-Latin tradition.

Computational access to digital collections in GLAM institutions: A reproducible approach

by Gustavo Candela

In this workshop, we will introduce international initiatives focused on the reuse of digital collections provided by GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums) institutions. We will provide several examples including reproducible code based on Jupyter Notebooks to show how to reuse the content provided by the digital collections made available by relevant GLAM institutions.

Introduction to Voyant Tools

by Diego Giménez

In this workshop we learn to use a digital tool for textual analysis. It is designed as an introduction to some of the features of the Voyant Tools platform. Visualisation, as a strategy for computational representation, relies on a metaphorical translation between a set of quantitative data and a set of graphic elements. These graphic elements establish a system of relationships among themselves, with the aim of abstracting and simplifying a system of quantitative relationships.
